A Crewe, Va. police officer went above and beyond the call of duty to save a little girl's Valentine's Day.
Officer Jonathan Baxter Stegall responded to a Feb. 17 car crash on Route 460 in which 6-year-old Najah Zarif broke her leg, according to WTVR-TV.
The girl's mother, Tracy, was behind the wheel when her vehicle slammed into a car that stopped in the middle of the road.
"She was hollering and she was in pain," Tracy told the news station. "It was the worst thing in the world."
Stegall got stayed with the young girl until paramedics rushed her to the hospital.
"I have a daughter about the same age and I thought about my daughter being in the same position," he said, recalling the incident.
Najah told Stegall her school Valentine's Day party was the next day. Her injuries would force her to miss the party.
Wanting to help, Stegall used his own money to buy Najah a Valetine's Day box filled with candy and toys.
"Just to know that someone other than her family cares about her it’s a great feeling," Tracy said.
Najah has six more weeks of physical therapy and should return to school in early May.
