A Taylor County, Fla. Sheriff’s deputy was listed in critical condition following a shootout at a car dealership that left the gunman dead.
Deputy Robert Lundy was getting his patrol car serviced at the Timberland Ford dealership in Perry Wednesday when an employee of the dealership drove through the showroom's front window and began firing a semi-automatic shotgun, according to The Tallahassee Democrat.
Lundy was, a 10-year veteran of the department, was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.
The gunman, identified as 51-year-old Earl Edward Clague Jr., was fatally shot by the deputy, but not before he also wounded two other employees.
The two employees were hospitalized and while authorities wouldn't elaborate on their injuries, they said both are expected to survive.
A bystander who was hit by shattered glass and the others with chest and back pain were also taken to the hospital.
Officials credited the quick action of Lundy and the response of deputies for minimizing what could have been a far worse incident.
"Deputy Lundy was willing to risk his own life today to save others," Taylor County Sheriff L.E. "Bummy" Williams told reporters. "I am proud of his bravery and his heroism is to be commended."
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is currently investigating the shooting.
