Weekend (Nov. 15-17)

An Ingham County, Mich. Sheriff's Department K-9 was killed Sunday night after it escaped from its kennel that was damaged during a storm and was struck by a car.

Sheriff Gene Wriggelsworth said the heavy winds from the storm flattened the fence to K-9 Luger's kennel and allowed him to go free.

Surveillance video and 911 calls recorded during a shooting inside a New Jersey mall have been released.

Police say Richard Shoop fired several shots inside the Garden State Plaza from a gun modified to look like an AK-47 before killing himself.

Two men were arrested late Saturday night on charges of attempting to kill a San Diego police officer during a traffic stop.

Police say the incident occurred as the officer attempted to pull over a suspected drunk driver when he heard four shots and saw a muzzle flash.

With the help of the San Francisco Police Department and the Make-A-Wish Foundation, a 5-year-old cancer patient's dreams were made into a reality on Friday.

A Virginia Beach, Va. police officer and the man he rescued in 15 years ago were recently reunited.

Officer Mark Johnson saved crash victim Billy Allred, whose legs sustained significant burns, on June 11, 1998.

Two New Mexico state police officers are under investigation and a mother and her 14-year-old son are facing charges following a chaotic traffic stop caught on camera.

Tuesday (Nov. 19)

Jurors took less than an hour to unanimously recommend that a man convicted of killing two Tampa police officers be put to death.

Dontae Morris had been found guilty of fatally shooting Officers Jeffrey Kocab and David Curtis during a 2010 traffic stop on Friday.

In another case involving a convicted cop-killer, the U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear the appeal of a man sentenced to death in the fatal shooting of a Montgomery, Ala. police officer in 2006.

A judge gave Mario Dion Woodward the death penalty in 2008, overriding a jury that sentenced the man who killed Officer Keith Hout to life in prison.

Staying in Alabama, a corner found that a Phenix City police officer who died last Sunday accidently shot himself while inside his unmarked patrol car.

Sgt. Daniel V. Davis suffered massive blood loss after suffering the wounded in the parking lot of the Carriage Hill Apartments on Nov. 10.

A Del City, Okla. police captain is on trial for fatally shooting a teenager in the back in November 2011.

The prosecutor told the jury during opening statements that Capt. Randy Trent Harrison "crossed a line from legitimate use of force" when he shot 18-year-old Dane Scott.

Wednesday (Nov. 20)

A New York State Police trooper died after falling about 30 feet during a training exercise in a gorge.

Trooper Ross M. Riley, who is a member of the State Police Special Operations Response Team, somehow became untethered during the exercise before falling into Wolf Creek.

Portland police released video of officers firing a Taser multiple times at a man armed with knives inside a Whole Foods Store.

Officials said that the 47-year-old man was spotted shoplifting and then grabbed the knives from a display rack in an aisle.

The NYPD sergeants union wants the head of the department’s Internal Affairs Bureau fired.

The demand comes after the vehicle of Sgt. Mohamed Deen -- who was brutally beaten while off duty over the weekend -- was searched by investigators.

The Columbia Heights Police Department is thinking outside the box to better connect with its community.

A year after winning the 2012 International Association of Chiefs of Police Community Policing Award for cities under 20,000, the department has launched its "Coffee with a Cop" program.

Thursday (Nov. 21)

A manhunt was underway for a gunman who wounded a Delaware State Police trooper in Wilmington Wednesday afternoon.

Trooper Richard Deskis is recovering at home after he was shot in the arm around while investigating a parked vehicle that appeared to contain stolen merchandise.

Military veterans wounded in battle are participating in a new Department of Homeland Security program aimed at fighting online child pornography.

Seventeen special-operations veterans nationwide are part of the one-year internship known as Human Exploitation Rescue Operative Child Rescue Corps, or HERO Corps.

The North Courtland, Ala. Police Department office was destroyed by a fire.

The cause of the fire isn't known, but it remains under investigation.

Friday (Nov. 22)

The chief of the United States Park Police has announced plans to retire next month after more than three decades in law enforcement.

Park Police Chief Teresa Chambers said she plans to step aside on Dec. 5. No successor was immediately named.

Baltimore's top cop calls for changes in nearly every area of the police department in a recently released 200-page report.

Police Commissioner Anthony W. Batts wants to stop sending officers out on low-priority 911 calls, expand foot patrols and create a unit focused on investigating incidents in which police use force.
