An armed suspect was shot and killed by Antioch officers at the end of a chase, city police officials said.
Korey Marcel Germaine, 24, of Vallejo was shot several times when he pointed a gun at officers after crashing a car, said Antioch police Capt. Leonard Orman.
The incident began shortly after 4:30 p.m. Tuesday when Germaine cut off another driver and then brandished a gun at the motorist at a traffic light near the Crossings Shopping Center on Deer Valley Road, police said.
The suspect, later identified as Germaine, left in a Mercedes-Benz, and officers spotted the car on Hillcrest Avenue and began chasing it, police said.
Germaine ran a red light and traveled on the wrong side of the road several times during the chase, which reached speeds of 80 mph, police said. The suspect drove both north and south on Hillcrest and at one point allegedly tried to run an officer off the road.
A civilian vehicle and a police car were hit by the suspect during the pursuit, officials said.
Germaine crashed the Mercedes on Hillcrest at Wildflower Drive and fled on foot, Orman said, before officers opened fire when he pointed a gun at them. Germaine was pronounced dead at the scene.
No officers were hurt. The identities of the officers involved in the shooting weren't released.
Germaine has convictions for petty theft, battery and possession of a concealed weapon and was arrested in June for allegedly evading police, records show.
The fatal shooting is under investigation by police and the Contra Costa County district attorney's office.
