Officials say Anthony Joseph Fox then broke into a home while continuing his bid to escape.

An Indiana County man was taken into custody Saturday after he allegedly stole a state police car while being detained and then broke into a home while continuing his bid to escape.

Anthony Joseph Fox, 26, of Smicksburg, was charged by state police with theft, fleeing police, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving while under the influence, burglary, criminal trespass, resisting arrest, aggravated assault, escape and simple assault. He was arraigned and placed in the Cambria County Prison in lieu of bail.

State police said they, along with police from Jackson Township and Vintondale Borough, were called to Lloyd Street in Nanty Glo for a report of a suspicious person.

Upon arrival, the defendant was found to be under the influence of drugs and in possession of drug paraphernalia, police said.

Fox was handcuffed, placed into the rear seat of a state police car and restrained with a seat belt, police said. Fox was able to free his arms from behind his back and then jumped into the front seat and drove away.

Police from Jackson and Vintondale pursued Fox, with Fox then crashing the vehicle on Old Nanty Glo Road in Jackson Township. Fox then exited the vehicle and forced his way into a nearby residence with state police troopers on foot behind him.

Fox was taken into custody and taken to Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center for a blood test, police said.
