Feb. 16--A 30-year-old Spring Hill woman was arrested Thursday on a charge of filing a false report three days after she claimed she was stopped by a man who was impersonating a law enforcement officer, according to the Hernando County Sheriff's Office.
On Monday, Lindsay Walke reported that she was stopped at Waterfall Drive and Bern Lane in Spring Hill, and that someone posing as a law enforcement officer took her driver's license and insurance card, and had her follow him to a nearby medical plaza to perform field sobriety exercises.
She also told police that the suspect "searched" her vehicle and then let her go with a "warning."
After reviewing several hours of video from surrounding businesses and numerous interviews, detectives were able to determine that the incident Walke reported never took place.
During questioning about the incident, Walke admitted she made up the entire story in order to account for her whereabouts after being questioned by her husband regarding where she was during that timeframe, according to the report.
Walke was issued a misdemeanor citation and charged with filing a false report to law enforcement. The Hernando County Sheriff's Office will be seeking restitution to offset agency expenses for the more than 30 hours of time expended on the investigation.
