Texas Man Gets 90 Years for Impersonating an Officer

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A Fort Worth man was sentenced to 90 years in prison Friday for impersonating a police officer in an attempt to get sex from a woman.

Raul Alvarez-Mijan, 62, was convicted of a June 6, 2010, crime in which he offered a ride to a woman walking on East Lancaster Avenue. When the woman refused, Alvarez-Mijan flashed a badge and told her he would take her to jail if she did not give him sex, according to a news release from the Tarrant County district attorney's office.

The woman kept walking and later called 911. Officers arrested Alvarez-Mijan shortly after the call and found a gun, a hand-held radio and a badge in his possession, the release said.

After the arrest, police investigated other police impersonation cases and linked Alvarez-Mijan to the sexual assault of another woman. The second woman testified that she was walking on East Lancaster Avenue on Feb. 17, 2010, when a man offered her a ride.

The woman testified that Alvarez-Mijan sexually assaulted her twice and showed her a gun and a badge between assaults, the release said. Alvarez-Mijan is facing a charge of aggravated sexual assault in connection with that case, the release said.

The jury also heard about Alvarez-Mijan's prior convictions, including a 1989 conviction for assault with a deadly weapon and a 1983 murder conviction in Dallas.
