An off-duty Milwaukee police detective shot an armed youth who tried to rob him Sunday night, officials said.
A 17-year-old Milwaukee resident demanded the 53-year-old detective's valuables shortly before 6 p.m. in the 4500 block of N. 27th St. The detective shot the suspect, who then ran from the scene.
The boy, whose name was not released, walked into a nearby grocery store in the 2600 block of W. Atkinson a short time later asking for an ambulance. He was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
The detective, who was not named, was not injured. He has served on the police force for almost 23 years and is assigned to the Criminal Investigation Bureau. He was placed on administrative duty pending an investigation by the Milwaukee County district attorney's office and Milwaukee police, which is the routine when officers discharge their weapons.
