Jan. 01--LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Two LAX police officers saved a woman's life Friday night when she suffered a heart attack at the airport.
The officers, Robert Mosquera and Thi Tran, responded about 10:15 p.m. to a report of a woman feeling sick at Terminal 2. They arrived to find Ethel Martinez, 49, sitting in a car parked at the curb.
She had no pulse and was not breathing.
The woman had collapsed on the sidewalk while walking her sister to a ticket counter inside, according to a news release issued by LAX Airport Police. The woman's husband helped her back to the car and called the for help.
Mosquera began CPR while Tran ran back inside the terminal and grabbed a defibrillator. The two then worked to get Martinez breathing again.
Paramedics arrived and rushed the woman to a nearby hospital.
"Thanks to the commendable actions of Officers Mosquera and Tran, who quickly responded to a life-threatening medical emergency and effectively used their emergency medical training, a woman who was at LAX is alive today and will be able to enjoy the new year," said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa.
