Nov. 30--Kansas City police tackled a suspected robber this morning after he allegedly held up a bakery for the second time in less than two weeks.

Because of previous holdups at the bakery and a dry cleaner in the area, officers from the Metro Patrol Property Crimes task force were watching the bakery this morning when the robbery occurred.

They saw the suspect park his car about 7:20 a.m. near the McClain's Bakery, 201 E. Gregory Blvd. The car, and the suspect's outfit, matched the descriptions from a heist at the bakery on Nov. 18, said police Sgt. Brad Lemon. The suspect wore all dark clothing with white knit gloves.

Officers saw the suspect pull a ski mask over his face and dart into the bakery. After stealing money from the cash registers, the suspect started running toward his getaway vehicle. But officers were there, waiting for him.

"Show me your hands" an officer yelled.

The suspect sprinted in another direction, dropping his gun, cell phone and the money from the bakery as he ran.

He ran into other officers, who tackled him and shot him with a stun gun after he refused to give up.

In the previous robbery at the bakery, a man walked into the shop about 9 a.m. and asked for a longjohn. The employee told him they didn't sell longjohns. So the man asked for two cinnamon rolls. After a few seconds, he pulled a gun and demanded cash, "no checks," according to police reports.

The robber fled in a dark Dodge Stratus four-door with no hubcaps on the passenger side.
