Arkansas Cruiser Strikes Teen Sending Him to Hospital
Nov. 26--Emergency Medical Services transported a Greenwood teenager to the hospital Thursday night after a Fort Smith police officer struck her with his patrol unit, according to an accident report.
Officer Brandon Djordjevic hit the teen at 10:10 p.m. while traveling about 30 mph to 35 mph near the intersection of North O and North 13th streets, according to the report.
Djordjevic said he didn't see the teen until the collision, according to the report.
After realizing he hit a pedestrian, Djordjevic "immediately contacted" dispatch to send an ambulance, according to the report.
The teen was treated at Sparks Regional Medical Center for a laceration to her head and released a short time later.
The teen said she remembered walking through nearby Martin Luther King Park, "and the next thing she knew, she was riding in an ambulance," according to the report.
Officer Clinton Shown, a passenger in the patrol unit, said he was typing on the vehicle's mobile data terminal and didn't see anything until the collision, according to the report.
According to a patrol duty sergeant, no citations were issued because the teen was walking in the roadway and the officer was traveling below the speed limit.
The report also states that the incident was recorded on the patrol unit's dash cam.
