Nov. 24--A man walked into a police station on the West Side with a fully loaded assault rifle and said he was turning it in, authorities said.

The 28-year-old man did not point the rifle at anyone when he entered the Harrison District station shortly before 4 a.m., authorities said. Police called the man's family because he seemed unstable and his family took him to Stroger Hospital for evaluation.

The gun was an AR-15 assault rifle and had a 30-round magazine that was fully loaded, authorities said.

Earlier, authorities indicated he had been arrested, but that information was not correct.
