CANTON - A state trooper was injured on Route 128 Thursday when a car struck his cruiser.
The trooper, whose name was not immediately available, was escorting a construction crane on Route 128 just north of Route 95 in the right lane when a car cut in front of the crane and struck the cruiser at about 9:45 p.m., State Police said.
The trooper was taken to an area hospital, but there was no word on how seriously he was injured.
The driver of the car that struck the cruiser had not been charged as of this morning, but police said their investigation was continuing.
The accident is one of several over the past year in which a police officer has been injured on highways in the region.
In March, state trooper Brian Berry had pulled over a car on I-93 in Quincy when a second car plowed into his cruiser, pushing it into Berry, who had to be taken to a hospital with leg injuries.
Also in March, a trooper was hurt when a car hit his cruiser in Framingham.
The same happened earlier in the year on I-93 in Braintree and Route 24 in Fall River. And a little more than a year ago, state police Sgt. Douglas Weddleton of Brockton was struck and killed on I-95 in Mansfield.
