Nov. 20--A Northeastern University student whose shoes were made for walking was popped by the cops after they matched his footwear to the dents on the roof of a campus cop cruiser, Boston police said.

"I may have walked over the car," Dylan Hackley conceded early yesterday morning, after distinctive footprint damage to at least one campus cruiser was matched to the soles of the 21-year-old Northeastern student's shoes, a police report states.

Hackley's shoes were dropped into an evidence bag. He was placed under arrest, charged with willful and malicious destruction of property. He's expected to be arraigned today in Roxbury District Court.

The school did not respond yesterday to a request for comment.

Surveillance cameras outside Northeastern University's Police Department on Columbus Avenue show Hackley striding across campus cruisers parked out front shortly before 2:30 a.m., the report states.

Footprints and dents were discovered on the light bar, crash bar, hood, roof and trunk of one vehicle.

Northeastern officers attempting to confront Hackley and several of his pals told Boston police the youths began to flee, then told the cops they were chasing someone who tried to steal their pizza.
