WILLOWS A woman who pleaded no contest to a burglary charge in 2007, and is currently in the Glenn County Jail awaiting sentencing for making criminal threats, has asked the Glenn County Sheriff's Office to step up patrols of her Hamilton City home while she's behind bars.
Manuela Gonzalez, 34, told jailers she wanted to speak to a deputy so she could file a theft report. She reportedly said she got an anonymous tip that people have been going into her backyard and stealing avocados from her trees.
She formally requested extra patrol on her residence, including spotlighting during hours of darkness. She said she fears that intruders will attempt to steal more than the avocados.
Sheriff's officials haven't stated if they'll be able to accommodate the woman's request.
The theft of fowl, fruits and vegetables in California, including avocados, is considered grand theft and a felony if the value taken exceeds $250.
Gonzalez has an extensive criminal history in Glenn County. She could be sentenced to up to one year in jail or prison for the current charge against her.
