Two Keene police officers were assaulted while trying to arrest a man spotted with an open alcohol container early Sunday morning, according to Keene police.
An officer stopped Evan Lospennato, 20, of Windham just after midnight on Davis Street. Lospennato took off running and when officers caught up with him, he struggled and assaulted two officers, according to Keene police Sgt. Christopher L. Simonds.
Officer Katie Corbett suffered a knee injury and Officer Kyle Macie suffered a hand injury in the altercation and both were treated and released from Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene, said Keene police Lt. Eliezer Rivera.
Lospennato was arrested and charged with illegal possession of alcohol, resisting arrest and simple assault. He had a possible broken nose after the struggle, Simonds said. Rivera said he was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
Lospennato was released on $1,000 bail and was scheduled to appear in court today.
Shortly after the incident, police were involved in another chase after stopping a Connecticut man for public urination on Wilson Street just after 1 a.m.
Taylor G. Jette, 20, was arrested and charged with effluence and resisting arrest. He was released on $1,000 bail and is to appear in court next month, according to the police log.
Vehicle fire reported on Rindge campus
RINDGE -- Emergency crews were called to a two-alarm vehicle fire Saturday night on the Franklin Pierce University campus.
The vehicle was in a garage at Granite Hall, a residential building, and was completely engulfed by flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, according to dispatchers at Southwestern N.H. District Fire Mutual Aid.
The fire was reported at 10:15 p.m. and under control within a half hour. No one was injured.
Crews from Fitzwilliam, Dublin, New Ipswich, Rindge and Troy responded to the fire.
Keene man accused of vandalism to building
A Keene man was arrested after police say he broke a window Sunday night at a Beaver Street apartment building.
Eric S. Grover, 27, faces charges of criminal mischief, criminal trespass, resisting arrest and refusing to be processed. Additionally, police learned that Grover was wanted on a bench warrant issued by the 10th Circuit Court District Division in Seabrook and he was charged with common law criminal contempt because he was out on bail, said Keene police Lt. Eliezer Rivera.
Police responded to the report of a man on the roof of 24 Beaver St. shortly after 7:30 p.m., Rivera said.
After speaking to witnesses to get a description of the man, who was gone when they arrived, they located Grover on Washington Street and arrested him, Rivera said.
Grover resisted arrested and refused to be processed once taken to the police station, Rivera said.
Grover was held for lack of $1,000 bail and is scheduled to appear today in 8th Circuit Court District Division in Keene.
Man charged after Peterborough crash
PETERBOROUGH -- A 21-year-old man was arrested after crashing on Old Greenfield Road Saturday morning, police said.
Benjamin Reynolds of Peterborough was arrested and charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and conduct after an accident after going off the road in a 1997 Ford pickup and landing on a stone wall, according to Peterborough Police Chief Scott M. Guinard.
Reynolds was released on $500 bail and is scheduled to appear in court Dec. 5.
The accident was reported at 10:33 a.m.
No further information was available.
