Nov. 03--JEFFERSONVILLE -- Three people were hospitalized after a wreck involving a Jeffersonville Police Department officer.
Officer Thomas O'Neil was driving his police car westbound on 10th Street near Cherry Drive at about 2:30 p.m. Thursday. He was responding to an injury accident at Market and Penn streets with his lights and sirens activated, according to JPD Detective Todd Hollis.
Hollis said O'Neil and witnesses indicated a gold Kia crossed the center line and crashed into the officer. Both vehicles sustained extensive front-end damage.
O'Neil was going to be medically evaluated but did not appear to have any serious injuries at the scene. Hollis said at least two passengers in the Kia were transported by ambulance to a local hospital. One of those passengers was extricated from the vehicle. The driver was also seen being taken to the hospital.
The severity of the injuries to those in the Kia was not known. Hollis said the Indiana State Police is investigating the crash. ISP had not released a report as of press deadline.
At least one woman was seen being taken away in an ambulance from the wreck on Market Street, but her condition and name was not available.
