MADISON, Wis.

A bar fight sent a Madison cop to the hospital after one of the patrons bit him as he was trying to maintain order.

The incident happened just after 2:30 a.m. Sunday outside of Murphy's Tavern in the 3700 block of East Washington Avenue.

According to police, Jorge Jovel Cuaresma, 34, of Madison, had been in a disturbance with security staff at the tavern. Police said Cuaresma was a passenger in a car which had backed into a parked vehicle in the bar's parking lot.

The staff told the driver that he couldn't leave, which created a problem with Cuaresma, according to police. Police said when officers arrived, Cuaresma bit an officer in the arm, breaking the skin.

Police said Cuaresma is facing charges of battery and possession of marijuana.
