SAN ANTONIO, Texas
A San Antonio police officer seriously injured in a traffic accident three years ago returns to work over the weekend.
At 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Julie Johnson attended her first roll call since the injury.
Johnson suffered 13 broken ribs and a head injury in Oct. of 2008 when she was hit by a car on the highway. She had stopped to assist during a car accident.
She said her first year of rehabilitation focused on her head injury.
"The last couple of years, it was more trying to get my body back to the function it should be, making sure I could function on the street," said Johnson.
Johnson said she was both excited and nervous as she headed back to work.
She will be working out of the Central Substation.
