A San Diego police officer suffered minor injuries on Wednesday when his police car was hit in the Rancho Penasquitos area.

A San Diego police officer suffered minor injuries on Wednesday when his police car was hit in the Rancho Penasquitos area.

Police said the crash happened on Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard at Azuaga Street just after 9 p.m.

An 18-year-old driver was driving her Mustang through the intersection against a red light to turn onto Highway 56. A police officer was driving through the intersection and the driver struck the police cruiser on the front left side.

Police said the Mustang was traveling around 35 mph when it collided with the police car.

The officer, who was identified as 20-year veteran officer Mike Moller, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Pomerado Medical Center as a precaution. The other driver is reportedly uninjured.

The intersection at Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard and Azuaga Street was shut down as police conducted their investigation.

Police are working to decide what citation the driver will receive. Police said she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
