Authorities captured a suspect in southeastern Ohio this morning who was sought in the theft of a deputy sheriff's marked SUV last night with the deputy's police dog inside.

The suspect was arrested without incident about 9:49 a.m. in an area just south of Vinton County in neighboring Meigs County, near Rts. 143 and 689, a county sheriff's dispatcher said.

The SUV has been recovered. And the police dog, a German shepherd named Dooley, has been found in the Dundas area in Vinton County, the dispatcher said.

That is the area where Deputy William Bowden made a stop last night to investigate a wrecked vehicle occupied by the suspect. The suspect assaulted the deputy, knocked him to the ground and drove off in his Ford Expedition, authorities said. Bowden received minor injuries.

Authorities identified the suspect as Kelly Krebs, 31.

Earlier this morning, the suspect eluded a deputy sheriff in Gallia County who was trying to capture him by stabbing the dog that was working with that deputy, authorities said. Information about the dog's condition was not available this morning.

State troopers had joined the manhunt this morning by guarding the search perimeter that authorities established in the area of the Vinton and Meigs county line, State Highway Patrol spokesman Lt. Gary Lewis said.
