Two Morgan County Jail correctional officers and an inmate were headed to buy bread when they were involved in a three-vehicle wreck Friday.

Officer Mark Heard, 31 was driving the county pickup and officer Larry Stalls, 61, and Gregory Dewayne Robinson, 40, an inmate, were passengers, said Chief Deputy Mike Corley.

The accident occurred around 8:22 am. on West Moulton Street at 10th Avenue Northwest, he said.

"They were headed to a bread store on Old Moulton Road," Corley said. "They were rear-ended and the chain reaction caused them to run into the back of the car in front of them."

Stalls and Robinson were taken by ambulance to Decatur General Hospital, and a sheriff's employee took Heard to Parkway Medical Center, Corley said.

They had no life-threatening injuries.

"It was more or less some back and neck complaints. One of the officers had back surgery a little while back, so they checked him for that," Corley said. The inmate had a slight concussion."

All three men were treated and released from the hospitals.

The county vehicle had minor damage, Corley said.

The officers were taking Robinson to the store to help load and unload bread.

Robinson, of Decatur, is in jail on a probation violation in connection with a cocaine-trafficking charge, Corley said.

The county truck was stopped behind a vehicle at a traffic light when a third vehicle hit the back of the truck, which ran into the vehicle in front, said Decatur Police Public Information Officer Lt. Jonathan Green. Green said no one was injured in the other vehicles.

Alcohol was not involved, Green said.
