April 07--Troopers said a deputy responding to a call this morning crashed into another car because the brakes in his cruiser failed.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers said Orange County Sheriff's Office Deputy Shane Dickens was responding to a call on Orange Blossom Trail when he struck the car driven by Zaida Fontanez.
The FHP report shows the trooper's emergency lights were activated at the time of the crash.
Reports show Dickens was traveling south on Orange Blossom Trail at 5 a.m. when he approached Landstreet Road.
Troopers said he tried to move into the center lane, but his brakes failed and he drove into the northbound lanes. The front of his vehicle struck Fontanez's Ford van.
Dickens, Fontanez, and her passenger suffered minor injuries in the collision. Rescue crews took them to Orlando Regional Medical Center.
