SAN FRANCISCO -- Oakland Chief of Police Anthony Batts sprang into action Friday morning, coming to the aid of a man who crashed into several vehicles after suffering a seizure.
The incident happened about 10 a.m. Friday in the 100 block of South Van Ness Avenue as Batts and his chief of staff, Sgt. Chris Bolton, were in the city on department business.
Oakland Officer Holly Joshi said the chief and Bolton saw a car crash into two occupied vehicles and another parked vehicle before jumping a curb and stopping on the sidewalk.
Joshi said Batts realized the man was having a seizure and broke out the window of his vehicle with a piece of pipe a citizen gave him to aid him. Bolton tended to parties in the other vehicles.
The man was eventually transported to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
