Miss. Officer Hurt in Fall During Training

April 08--MERIDIAN -- A member of the Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) with the Meridian Police Department was injured Thursday afternoon while taking part in monthly training.

Officials at the Meridian/Lauderdale County Public Safety Training Facility said the accident occurred at about 3:15 p.m. when the officer fell from an elevated section during an obstacle course exercise. The officials said the officer hit the back of his head in the fall.

An ambulance was called out to transport the officer to a Meridian hospital for treatment and observation. Training facility officials said the officer was conscious and aware of his surroundings and added it appeared the injury would not be serious or life threatening.
