A Nassau County police officer died Friday night after his cruiser was hit during a traffic stop, according to WNYW-TV.
The crash occurred shortly before 11 p.m. in Old Westbury on the Long Island Expressway.
The officer -- whose name has not yet been released -- was conducting a traffic stop when his cruiser was hit from behind by a truck.
The officer sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Police are investigating the crash and charges are pending.
