A Los Angeles police officer is in critical condition after he was shot in Sylmar early Monday morning, according to KTLA-TV.
It all began around 10:30 p.m. Sunday when police responded to the 13600 block of Dronfield Avenue for a domestic dispute call after a woman ran to a neighbor's house and called 911 to report that her husband beat her.
K-9 units initiated a search around 2:15 a.m. and as they approached the home, Officer Steve Jenkins was shot in the jaw and shoulder.
He was transported to Holy Cross Hospital in Mission Hills in critical condition and underwent surgery.
The 22-year veteran of the LAPD has spent the last four years in the Metro division as a K-9 officer, according to the report.
His wife is an LAPD sergeant and his son is an officer.
The suspect remains barricaded inside the house and officials aren't sure if he was wounded by gunfire returned by police.
