A Jerome city police officer is in a Boise hospital after being shot during an afternoon chase on Monday.

The officer was injured during a chase that ended at about 5 p.m. near 300 S. 200 E. in southern Jerome County. Details of the officer's name and gender are not available, but officials said the officer was sent to Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise by air ambulance.

The extent of the officer's injuries is unknown but they do not immediately appear to be life-threatening.

The suspect, who officials have not released details about, also suffered a non-life-threatening injury before the chase ended when the suspect's car rolled. No details regarding the suspect have been released, though officials said in an evening press conference that the suspect was taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance.

Officials said at the conference that multiple gunshots were fired during the chase, which involved three Jerome Police Department officers and a Jerome County Sheriff's deputy. No further details about how the chase originated or its route were immediately available.

Police and deputies from various local agencies have blocked off multiple country roads in the area of the chase as they attempt to locate shotgun shells, bullet casings and other pieces of evidence.

The investigation, now hampered by darkness, is expected to last late into the night and possibly into Tuesday morning.
