A Uniontown police officer has died from injuries sustained in a crash Tuesday morning.
Capt. Dan Stiles, 46, died at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at Akron City Hospital, a spokesman for the Summit County Medical Examiner's Office said.
Stiles was the Uniontown department's full-time Officer of the Year for 2010. He was formerly a sergeant with the Hartville Police Department.
Stiles was struck by a light-colored sport-utility vehicle about 8 a.m. on state Route 619 (Edison Street). Authorities said Stiles was injured while directing traffic near the intersection of Route 619 and Kaufman Avenue.
Uniontown Police Chief Jack Coontz was not immediately available to provide more information. The Ohio Highway Patrol is involved in the investigation. A patrol spokesman was unavailable for comment.
