FRANKLIN, Ind. --

Two Johnson County sheriff's deputies narrowly escaped injury in a serious wreck in Franklin early Thursday.

Deputy Rusty Wheeler and Deputy Jeremy Kersey were answering a call with their emergency lights and sirens on at about 1:30 p.m. when Wheeler turned onto U.S. 31 from Hospital Road.

Police said slick roads caused the patrol car to slide into a guardrail and flip on its side.

Both deputies were transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, where they were treated and released.

Police said the incomplete 911 call the deputies were headed to turned out to be a misdial.
