Wounded N.J. Police Officer 'Out of the Woods'
The condition of a Paramus, N.J. police officer who was shot and critically wounded on Feb. 6 continues to improve, according to The Record.
Officer Rachel Morgan, 31, was shot five times on the Garden State Parkway exit from Route 17 by a suspect she attempted to pull over for speeding and having fictitious plates.
Two of the shots were stopped by her bulletproof vest, but two bullets pierced her abdomen and one hit her leg.
Morgan, along with Officer Ryan Hayo, returned fire on Michael Sean Carmody, who killed himself with a shot to the head.
On Tuesday, the wounded officer posted a message on a Facebook page created to honor her following the incident.
"Hey everyone!," she wrote. “(Thank you) again for all of your support ... just an update.. still got a long road ahead but I’m pretty much out of the woods and now its recovery and rehab."
She has been getting out of bed with the assistance of physical therapists and has been performing prescribed exercises to keep her muscles from atrophying, according to the report.
Officer.com will provide more updates on Officer Morgan's condition as they become available.
