Authorities Say Man Broke Into Ohio Police Station
SALINE TOWNSHIP, Ohio --
The police officers who serve and protect Saline Township needed a little protection themselves Saturday morning.
"The officer on-duty came back from his patrols. He found that the front door had been broken into," said Saline Township Police Patrolman Josh Stewart. "He found the lock pieces and pieces from the door scattered about the floor."
Saturday, police said they had a suspect in custody. They said Lee Tilton was found outside the building on township property. Police were reviewing surveillance video from at least eight cameras on the property that they believe recorded the break-in.
"Entry through the door was obviously made with bodily force," said Stewart."There were no tools removed from the subject. Nothing that we believe was used in the entering other than his own body."
Police said after a preliminary assessment, it doesn't look like Tilton took anything from the station.
"The general office area that he made entry into, we found nothing missing at all," said Stewart. "No sensitive files, no weapons of any kind would have been accessible. Strange is my first thought. Not a lot of people break into a police station."
Township trustees were working to get a new door installed as quickly as possible to secure the police station.
