SEATTLE, Wash. --

Firefighters are investigating a suspicious fire at a Seattle police substation at 23rd and Union in Capitol Hill.

The call reporting the fire came in at about 3:30 a.m. on Saturday morning, just hours after protesters traveled from downtown Seattle’s Westlake Park all the way to Capitol Hill.

The Seattle Fire Department called the fire arson. They said someone used some sort of accelerant to set fire in front of the police substation. The fire was quickly extinguished and the building suffered minimal damage.

Currently, police are not connecting the fire with any of Friday night’s protests in which demonstrators clashed with police.

The protest spawned from anger over the King County prosecutor's decision not to file criminal charges against Officer Ian Birk after the killing of John T. Williams.
