ATLANTA --
A wrecker employee who was working to clear junk cars from a property in northwest Atlanta was shot and killed on Thursday by a man who didn’t want the cars to go, Channel 2 Action News reporter Ryan Young confirmed.
The fatal shooting happened shortly after noon on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway Northwest.
Atlanta Police Maj. Keith Meadows said when the wrecker service showed up to move the cars, a man went upstairs and began firing shots at the wrecker service employees. One wrecker service employee was fatally wounded; another was able to get away. Police said they believed the suspect used a shot gun.
Police identified the suspect as 74-year-old Philmore Reed Jr and took him into custody.
Young learned from police that there had been a dispute over land between two people and that one of them decided it was time to remove the cars after obtaining paperwork regarding land rights.
The owner of the wrecker service told Young that the victim was a good employee, father and stepfather.
