Conn. Officer Hurt When Alleged Drunk Driver Hits Cruiser

A police officer in Windsor Locks was taken to the hospital early Friday morning after police say he was hit by a drunken driver while in his police cruiser.

WINDSOR LOCKS, Conn. --

A police officer in Windsor Locks was taken to the hospital early Friday morning after police say he was hit by a drunken driver while in his police cruiser.

Police said the officer, identified as Paul Sherokow, was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Main and Spring streets when he was rear-ended by a pickup truck driven by Stewart McKechnie, 31, of East Windsor.

Officer Sherokow was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

McKechnie was arrested for driving under the influence. Police also found a swtichblade inside his truck and also charged him with carrying a dangerous weapon.

McKechnie was due in court Friday.
