A park ranger was killed in a crash while on authorized travel on Feb. 24, according to a press release.
Ranger Julie Weir had recently graduated from the Land Management Police Training Program and was on her way to begin the Field Training and Evaluation Program in Yosemite National Park in California when the collision occurred on I-80 near Kearney, Neb.
She was in transition from the permanent position at Independence National Historic Park in Philadelphia, Pa. to a new position at Klondike Gold Rush National Historic Park in Alaska, Wash.
Weir held 11 other units of the National Park Service throughout the country.
