Police said a drunk driving suspect was found asleep in his vehicle at a Jenkins Township intersection early Tuesday, then fought with and tried to disarm arresting officers.

Jason O. Bolesta, 27, of Shavertown, is charged with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, disarming a police officer and driving under the influence of alcohol.

According to arrest papers:

Police were dispatched around 3:45 a.m. for the report of an unresponsive male in a pickup truck at River Road and the Eighth Street bridge. Police soon located Bolesta sleeping in his vehicle, which was running and in gear. Officers said there was a 12-pack of beer on the front seat, and empty beer cans in the rear.

Arrest papers say emergency crews tried to wake Bolesta, but he failed to respond for minutes. As crews started to take Bolesta to an ambulance, he "started giving them a hard time." When told he was under arrest and instructed to place his hands behind his back, Bolesta attempted to remove an officer's handgun, police said. Police said Bolesta then attempted to punch officers, striking one in the jaw.

Bolesta was then taken to an area hospital for blood-alcohol testing.
