BELLEVIEW, Fla. --

A Marion County woman was arrested Thursday, accused of leading police on a chase reaching 80 mph before crashing into a home.

Ashley Roe, 21, of Summerfield, was arrested on charges of battery on an officer/firefighter EMT, fleeing law enforcement at a high speed, driving under the influence and marijuana possession.

According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Roe was seen swerving over the center line on South Highway 441 just after 2 a.m. Thursday. When law enforcement officers turned on their emergency lights, she then sped up from 35 mph to 80 mph, starting the chase, deputies said.

During the attempted traffic stop, deputies said Roe drove through a gas station parking lot, ran a stop sign and, at one point, nearly hit a Belleview police vehicle, the Sheriff's Office said. Belleview police joined the pursuit after Roe drove into the city, deputies said.

"The car continued to swerve, and the deputy knew the area to be a high pedestrian traffic area, so we needed to end the pursuit for public safety," said Judge Cochran, Marion County Sheriff's Office public information officer.

A Marion County Sheriff's Office deputy attempted a maneuver, and Roe tried to regain control of her vehicle but over-corrected, drove off the road, hit a tree and crashed into a house, authorities said.

Roe was extricated from her vehicle by Marion County firefighters and taken to a nearby hospital. The Sheriff's Office said Roe fought with a deputy at the hospital.

No one inside the home was injured.

Roe was taken to the Marion County Jail and was being held on a $11,000 bond.
