BETHEL, Conn. -- After a short police chase Wednesday, an 82-year-old Newtown man was arrested, but not before slamming an officer's fingers in his car door and punching him in the face, police said.
Police said they had told Werner Shulz, of 59 Hundred Acres Road, Newtown, not to drive after officers found he had a suspended license on Wednesday. Later in the day, Shultz got into his car and drove despite their orders not to, police said.
Shultz led police in a short chase that ended when he hit traffic, they said. When an officer asked him to get out of his car, Shultz allegedly refused and slammed the door on the officer's finger.
Then the officer tried to open the door and remove Shultz from the driver's seat, police said. At that moment, Shultz punched the officer in the face, police said. The officer was slightly injured, police said.
Schultz was eventually taken out of the car and arrested.
