March 06--A University of Washington patrol car on its way to a call struck two pedestrians in the University District early Saturday morning.
Both pedestrians were taken to Harborview Medical Center by ambulance. Seattle Police called their injuries non-life-threatening.
The UW patrol car with two officers on board was on its way to back up Seattle Police officers responding to a disturbance near Seventh Avenue Northeast and Interstate 5 about 1:30 a.m.
The UW patrol car was heading west on Northeast 45th Street when it collided in the intersection of University Way Northeast and Northeast 45th Street with a white Subaru Legacy traveling south on University Way Northeast, according to Seattle Police.
After the collision, the UW patrol car veered southwest, striking the two men who were standing at the corner of the intersection. The patrol car then crashed into a building on the southwest corner of the intersection before coming to rest, Seattle Police said.
Neither the driver of the Subaru nor his passenger was injured. No signs of alcohol or drug impairment were evident.
The officer driving the UW patrol car sustained minor injuries and was treated and released at the scene. His passenger was not injured.
Seattle Police will handle the investigation.
