ALBANY, N.Y --

New York State Police and the state Department of Transportation are sidelining eight bus drivers as part of a spot check of 36 tour buses after a horrific crash in New York City left 15 people dead.

State officials say preliminary results that include the issuing of eight tickets Thursday are part of an enhanced commercial vehicle inspection effort.

The drivers were cited for various violations, including log book infractions.

Ten buses were inspected at the Champlain Border Crossing in northern New York, five were inspected at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island and 21 were inspected in Monticello in Sullivan County.

Additional stops and checkpoints are planned statewide for the next several weeks at undisclosed locations and times.
