BOSTON --

Massachusetts State Police said they found a gray 2002 Hyundai Elantra that was reported stolen out of Watertown.

They said the car, operated by a white male, may have struck a local police officer on the South Shore in the area of Route 3A in Hingham or Weymouth around noon time on Thursday and then struck a State Police cruiser in the Ashmont section of Dorchester.

The driver of the car was identified by police as Leon Hatfield, 47, of Boston. He was described as a heavy-set, white and may have a cut on his cheek. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans and a maroon or red pullover sweatshirt.

Troopers were awaiting details of the Dorchester incident, but said it appeared that the trooper whose cruiser was struck was not injured or only suffered minor injuries.

Officers were uncertain whether the local officer on the South Shore was injured.

Anyone with information on Hatfield's whereabouts is asked to call Massachusetts State Police at 508-820-2121.
