WETZEL COUNTY, W.Va. --

A man was arrested in Wetzel County after authorities said he was involved in a hit-and-run crash with a deputy's cruiser.

Wetzel County Sheriff James Hoskins said the crash happened at County Road 89 and Steener Road early Saturday morning when a deputy tried to pull over a truck.

Hoskins said the driver, Derek Baker, 22, of Wileyville, backed up into the cruiser and then fled.

Deputies say the truck was on a lift kit and able to escape by driving into a remote area of the county where their cars could not go.

Hoskins said deputies eventually tracked down Baker and arrested him Monday. He was charged with attempted malicious assault.
