PORTLAND, Ore. --
It was an irritating, if not costly, mystery: Who was jamming TriMet ticket vending machines with cigarette butts?
After several weeks, TriMet Transit Police say they have arrested a suspect.
Officers arrested 29-year old Chaim Chi Martin after a TriMet supervisor claimed to witness him jamming a ticket machine near Pioneer Square.
The supervisor followed the suspect until he started to run, they say. That’s when the supervisor flagged down a deputy with the Transit Police Division.
The deputy caught up with Martin and arrested him.
Martin is facing seven counts of criminal mischief. His bail is set at $35,000.
