    FORT PIERCE, Fla. --

The Fort Pierce Police Department and St. Lucie County school district are investigating a complaint by a student that a teacher slapped him.

According to a police report, the 9-year-old boy said he was slapped in a classroom on Thursday.

Police said the boy told him that he had laughed at a friend who had told a joke and was approached by the teacher in the classroom. The boy said the teacher slapped him and told him that he would be slapped again if he continued to laugh.

The boy said he stopped laughing and told his mother he had been slapped when he got home.

Police said they did not see any scratches or marks on the boy's face.

Police, the Department of Children and Families and the St. Lucie County School District were investigating.
