MARTINSVILLE, Ind. --

A person was shot Friday at a middle school in south-central Indiana and a suspect is in custody, state police said.

The victim was shot twice in the stomach Friday morning at West Middle School in Martinsville, Sgt. Kirk Durnil said.

Durnil has no details of the victim's condition.

He said he did not know if the person shot was a student or a staffer at the school in Martinsville, a small city some 30 miles south-west of Indianapolis.

Sgt. Dave Bursten said one person is in custody "and there is no immediate danger" to the public. He said he had no information on the person who was shot.

"We're trying to piece together what happened," Bursten said.

WRTV reported that the suspect in custody was a recently expelled student and said police were searching for at least one more suspect.

WTHR-TV in Indianapolis said police believe the shooting stems from a dispute that started at a school dance last weekend.

All schools in Martinsville have been locked down following the shooting.
