N.H. Police Officer Airlifted After Pursuit Crash

    March 28, 2011
A Milton police officer was airlifted Sunday afternoon after he crashed while pursuing a vehicle.

    MILTON, N.H. --

A Milton police officer was airlifted Sunday afternoon after he crashed while pursuing a vehicle.

State police are now hunting for the vehicle and the driver.

They said the incident all started with a traffic stop on Church Street in Milton.

Sunday evening the Milton officer was being treated at Maine Medical Center at authorities at the police department in Milton were saying very little, only that the ordeal started when an officer tried to stop a vehicle that had gone through a stop sign, and when the officer got behind the driver he noticed the vehicle was driving erratically.

Police said when Officer Reginald Crone got out of his cruiser the driver took off down Willey Road and into Wakefield.

When Crone took off pursuing him he lost control of his cruiser and hit a tree.

    The vehicle fled the area.

Crone was airlifted to Maine Medical Center.

“Never a good thing, never something any agency wants to deal with, nor a police chief, one of his own being hurt,” Milton Police Chief Mark McGowan told News 9 Sunday.

State Police said Officer Crone suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck that took off is said to be a white male with a beard and was last seen wearing a hooded sweatshirt.

He was driving a white Chevy pickup with Maine temporary license plate number: 587830.

Any witnesses or people with information are asked to call State Police at 603-323-3333.
