RE: A Crime Symposium October 11-14, 2011 at the Goodwill Employment and Training Center, 3400 Tulane Avenue, New Orleans, LA. 70119. The purpose of the Symposium is to bring professional to professional, communities to communities, communities to professionals, cities to cities and countries to countries to network for a common cause: the prevention of crime. The opening sessions will start at 9:00am to 5:00am. There will be speakers and presenters representing cities throughout the United States, Caribbean Nations, Central America and Canada who have similar problems as the state of Louisiana. Some of the known Speakers are Congressman Danny K. Davis, U.S. Congressman- Illinois; Dr. Lee P. Brown, Former United States Drug CZAR, Criminologist; Taylor August, Regional Director of the Department of United States Education Civil Rights Division; Carmelita Pope Freeman, Regional Director of Community Relations Service of United States Department of Justice, Dallas, Texas; Chief Quentin D. Holmes, Chief of Police in Monroe, Louisiana; Brother Albert Mims, Community Activist for Crime Solutions; Kurt Wall, Crim! inal Division Director for the Louisiana Attorney General’s Office; and Educators. Community groups, Colleges and Universities, Organizations, Associations, victims of crimes and the communities at large are urged to attend. Some of the Topics are: Program Sustainment, Successful Programs That Use Best Practices, Reentry Programs That Work, Probation and Parole Revisited, Gang Intervention and Suppression, Crime Prevention, Crimes in Public Housing (Recommendations and Solutions), Identity Theft and many more. Space is limited. Please register as soon as possible online or through mail registration. Registration fee is $100.00 before September 11, 2011 and $180.00 afterwards. Student registration is $65.00 with Student ID. Three (3) luncheon tickets will be included in registration. There will also be an option to purchase separate luncheon tickets. All attendees will receive free materials, information and certificates of attendance and completion. Social Workers will be able purchase up to 20 CEUs for less than $30.
