INDIANAPOLIS-- A British forensics expert says the eyes of the law enforcement world are on Indianapolis today.

More specifically, they are on the University of Indianapolis which is opening a new state of the art forensics lab.

The school cut the ribbon today for its new video forensics lab. This is going to make the school the country's most important resource for analyzing crime scene video coming from an ever increasing number of surveillance cameras.

The University of Indianapolis has teamed up with an organization called Law Enforcement Emergency Service Video Association to create the lab.

Its technology will help improve the quality of video so investigators can use it more effectively. Crime experts from near and far say the new lab will have a significant impact.

"The lab that we're sitting in now at University of Indianapolis is just awesome. I'm hugely envious in the nicest possible way. It's a fantastic facility, " said forensics expert John Kennedy.

"The use of video cameras in the capturing of images through video cameras is so common nowadays that it's very important for us as a police department and as a community to know that we have the ability to use those images in the investigation of crimes and protection of our citizens," said IMPD Chief Mike Spears.
