LANDOVER, Md. --

Police said it appears that two women who were killed in a car crash Wednesday did not see the police officer who was on a collision course with them.

The crash happened on Route 202 near Landover. The women were in a car that turned left at the intersection with Technology Way.

A police cruiser driven by Mount Rainier police Officer Kirk Banton was going through the intersection. The cruiser slammed into the car.

Mount Rainier's police chief said Banton had the green light and appeared to have the right of way.
